Good service, decent wine selection and phenomenal food. This was my second time here. First time I got the tortellini with mushrooms, second time I got the risotto. Both were phenomenal. Try the hot peppers for appetizer.

I had only been here for a slice of pizza before last weekend. It was nice to know that there are tables upstairs, which is where my dining companion and I were seated. I ordered the vegetable lasagna, which oddly enough, was made without pasta. My DC ordered the bragiole (chicken I think?). My lasagna was very good, despite the lack of pasta. My DC's food was delicious, but he asked for the risotto to be switched out for pasta, and they forgot. Other than that, the service was good and the servers were considerate and polite throughout the whole meal. I would definitely go back...but I would try something that has pasta in it next time. :)

I am surprised how this place is still in business. The food is disgusting. Don't waist your money here. Tried couple of times different menu items. It looks like they advertise one thing but bring you completely different. I ordered grilled pork chop on the bone - Instead got lame fatty pieces of undercooked pork (not grilled) and completely unseasoned with side dish of tea spoon of what supposed to be risotto, but in reality overcooked rice with heavy topping of "parmesan" cheese. Seriously, don't WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Back again and had a chicken with crab dish...delicious.. I love their house salad, too. It's really generous and attractively plated. Service is always great.

I visited Cantina di Napoli for a family get-together. The food was, by far, great. It was just the ambience and atmosphere that stole the star. There were barely any people inside (surprisingly), and the decor was a little sad. The food was still great though. I'm sure you'd love it.

One of my favorite local Italian establishments--homemade pasta, and variations of southern Italian influenced dishes, create a restaurant, that I never seem to go tired of.

We moved to Wilmington about 1.5 years ago and this is a simple staple. It's a great inexpensive dinner/date night on a Friday night, or a Tuesday night pizza joint. Portions are great and the food is not exceptional italian but enough to keep us coming back!

Don't assume this is only a quick lunch or dinner grab and go pizzeria. Sure you'll find a couple of pies ready to sell slices plus fantastic sandwiches and salads that are also ready to go, but you truly need to take the time to head to their upstairs dining room, order from their full menu and enjoy a glass of wine while your delicious plate of food is prepared - it will be worth the wait! My husband and I have become regulars here. Recently we were talking with the manager about a Vodka Rigatoni Pizza that we used to frequently order at a restaurant in Yardley, PA. He told us that he could make us that same pizza. We took him up on his offer and loved his version. We will definitely be ordering it again!

The "scallop" was good bit definitely over priced ($6 for one that wasn't all the big). It was on top of a very bitter tomato. My friend had the gnocchi in pesto sauce which was good but a few were undercooked. I had the chicken ortallani and everything in it was good except the chicken just wasn't tasty. The service and bread was very good. Maybe I should have ordered something else but I'm not planning to go back here anytime soon.

I love this place...live a few blocks away. I have never had a bad meal. Eggplant pizza is perfect best antipasto you could ask for, had dinner there with a group of friends from out of state last night and everyone's meal was perfect. Service on point and never felt rushed. Highly recommend to anyone to give them a try!

This place is over priced and disgusting. I hear its supposed to be a sister restaurant to Cafe Napoli on Kirkwood Highway, but I don't see how that can be possible, since that place is delicious. I'm not sure how you can mess up a chicken caesar salad and then charge $12 for it!

What can I say about this place that does it justice? This restaurant is a gem. It's a quaint spot in the heart of Trolley Square that is a must for great Italian food. There is a downstairs which is small then a little bigger upstairs that includes some outside seating if the weather is appropriate. Everything here is delicious starting with the bread they bring you when you sit down that comes with oil and garlic. I especially enjoy the cannelloni, the pizza is very good as well, and then there's what my girlfriend refers to as the best gnocchi in the world. The pasta is homemade and it shows. You can't beat some fresh pasta. The service here is always stellar no matter which server I've had. This is the go to spot for me and my girlfriend. The prices are pretty fair as the food quality is so high. The portions here aren't huge but you definitely get enough for your money. Do yourself a favor and check it out sometime.

After reading about the deep fried spaghetti balls, I knew we had to check Cantina di Napoli out. Housed in the former space of Cafe Verdi (which moved down closer to Subway), this two floor restaurant is not your average strip mall Italian. We were seated upstairs, which was great since we had our 9 month old in tow. The bread basket was delicious and refilled twice. I had the grilled vegetable salad, which was awesome and then the linguine with escarole for dinner. The linguine was so so, but the salad was delicious. Everyone else at the table was incredibly pleased as well. I love this place and cannot wait to go back! For two beers, two apps and two meals plus tip, we spent 40 bones. AWESOME!

This has become my go to spot ever since I tried it a few months ago. I get their grilled chicken with spinach, and mixed vegetables and it's by far the best in the area (there are literally 3 other Italian restaurants within 100 yards of this place). The sauteed spinach alone would be worth getting. My wife also loves their tiramisu and she also claims its the best in the area. Aside from having great food, the service has always been excellent and friendly.

Excellent! Great Italian is back at the Trolley Square shopping center! The food was excellent, as were the tapas and appetizers we had. Great bottle of wine, also. The place had just opened, so the service was a little scattered, but I expect that will improve. I went with 5 other people. Not a member of my party had a problem with their meal. We ate, drank and talked quite happily, fueled by the environment and great food. I highly recommend this place. Hopefully this will make the other Italian place in the shopping center step up their game. Nothing like healthy competition to make things better for the patrons!

I don't know what the good reviews are about. I feel like this is a classic case of the kind of Italian food I avoid at all costs. My husband and another couple and I went there for a nice meal to try out the new place in town. I did enjoy my appetizer of bruchetta. I thought it was flavorful and light. When it came time to order the main dishes I specifically asked about what was in their gnocchi and tomato sauce dish. The waitress assured me that their tomato sauce was just that. No chunks or meat or anything. I ordered it. My husband had the salmon. It took a fairly decent amount of time for our entress to come. When they did, I noticed there was parmesan cheese throughout the dish. I am NOT a "send it back" person, but because I had specifically asked I called the waitress over and she said, "oh yes, well there's that too". I know this is typical for most places, but I would hope that they would have specified it when I asked before ordering. She was really understanding and returned the dish. After a while, she came back with my gnocchi, except now it was in a meat sauce. I couldn't bear to send it back again, so I just smiled and thanked her. I did try to eat it, but the sauce to me had a kind of aftertaste that was almost bitter or metallic. I can't describe it exactly. Other than that aftertaste though, it was bland. The pasta itself was a little on the cold side and while it wasn't mushy, a sin for gnocchi, it wasn't good either. It was just cold and greasy and blah. My husband's salmon was burnt on the bottom and he said it didn't taste like it had been seasoned at all. He also described it as greasy. They have an okay vibe going and the waitstaff tried, but overall, I would never pay their prices again for the quality of food. I just don't like my pasta to be cold, wrong, greasy, and blah.

This restaurant was a big letdown on all counts. We were six people squashed into a table for four which should have been our first clue. We sat upstairs and it was so loud there we couldn't have a conversation. No thought at all went into the design of the place as far as acoustics and ambiance go. The bathrooms are in the middle of the dining room and the noise level was high. The service was lacking, we waited almost an hour for a meals. During that time, no one came to check in with us after serving water, drinks, and bread. One hour, one drink and some bread and butter. Once our meals came, they were far from good. My chicken tasted like it had been cooked an hour ago (probably had..) , it was overdone and the sauce was boring, the eggplant and cheese were like rubber. It tasted like cafeteria food, not good quality Itallan food at all. Don't eat here, it's definately not worth it.

Great food and service. I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the meatballs were delicious. Loved my server Andrew. He was friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

Food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. Service is a bit scattered, but I think it is growing pains as they recently opened. The Veal is outstanding..

I ate here a few weeks ago with my wife and mother-in-law and we really enjoyed our meal. They had grilled polenta on the menu, which is not the norm at most Italian restaurants. This was actually how my grandmother used to make it so it was a nice surprise. The ravioli's I ate were good as well. If I am in Wilmington again, I will definitely return.

Well what can I say... This eating establishment fell short in just about every category. When you walk in there is some confusion what to do. There is no hostess stand nor any sign asking you wait or seat yourself. Some Steve Nick's want-to-be lady appears at the bottom of the steps and takes you to your table. She throws the tacky Menu on the table and crams you at a miniature table in an over crowded dinning room. The Dinning was not full yet it was so loud, there was no ambient music or noise barriers. It seemed like a high school cafeteria where everyone was yelling over each other. The main dinning room is a cramped upstairs with the bathroom in the middle of the dinning room. There is nothing better then eating my lack luster at best Veal Saltimbocca while some nerd is staring at me holding his Johnson while waiting to use the pisser. There are different tables, which give it that mountain dive bar feel and dated plastic coca cola cups. Which brings me to my next point. Trays do not exist in this "restaurant." the servers hold 4 wine glasses in their hands up against their body with a bottle of wine all at the same time. The repeatedly touch the rims of glasses and stemware. I did not ask for bread; however, the server said she would bring some to the table no less than 4 times. When it finally arrived it was cold and served with only 2 of those dainty plastic butter pads. It seemed like all the servers were chickens running around with there heads cut off. There were five of us at our table. My girlfriend ordered a glass of wine and water. She never received her water, and people got their drinks at different times. The appetizers took 20 minutes to arrive and the entrees took an additional 40 minutes after that. The dinner plates were so big there was almost no room on the table for our drinks. My girlfriend was the only female at the table yet she was the 4 person to get her entrée and mother friend had to wait 3 minutes after everyone else to get his food. It also made my eye twitch when the serve had to read everything back to me or repeated whatever was said or asked of her. For whatever reason I tend to eat my food rather fast, and I hate when servers and busboys take my plate away from the table when others in my party are still eating, I don't want anyone to feel rushed just because I am an alien who eats quickly. My Veal was probably the only satisfactory element of dinning experience at Cantina Napoli Trolley Square. Oh, for whatever reason unbeknownst to me or anyone else who has worked in a kitchen before, it cost an additional $1 to chop your antipasto salad? Silliness. My girlfriend had the salmon which was terribly over cooked and charred, it lacked any flavor and for some silly reason they threw steamed spinach on everyone's plate. I could not bare to try desert for fear they may take another 30 minutes to bring it and I would be left pulling my hair out and gouging my eyes out with the miss matched dirty silverware left at the table. In the end I would not recommend this establishment to anyone for anyone reason, except maybe if you wanted to take your in-laws there to take the pressure of you.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
